Self-Guided Tour Learning Kits and Scavenger Hunts

Self-Guided Tour Learning Kits

Discover the Calvert Marine Museum through paleontology, marine biology, and maritime history in a unique and educational way. To enhance your learning, the self-guided tour kits and a scavenger hunt listed below can be used during your visit.

Chesapeake Bay Watershed Field Guide Kit (designed for ages 9-11)
Explore the Calvert Marine Museum exhibits that introduce the Chesapeake Bay as an estuarine habitat and watershed. Learn the importance of water clarity for the health of plants and animals in the bay and experience hands-on science by measuring and recording water clarity, discovering a wide variety of animal adaptations, and reflecting upon the impact that humans have on the bay.

Sharks: Sink Your Teeth In! (designed for ages 9 -11)
Sink your teeth into learning about shark dentition and what scientists can learn by looking at just an animal's teeth. Working with 3D printed megalodon teeth, can you put the teeth in the right position of the jaws? Please note there is only one of this kit available.

Reserve self-guided tour kits at least two (2) days prior to your visit. Please note: Learning kits are not available for use on event days.

Scavenger Hunts

The whole family can join in the fun discovering many of the hidden pictures in the museum murals and using the poems with our unique scavenger hunts. Your adventure might include counting the toes of a dinosaur, telling time on a unique clock, determining the color of the jellyfish, or figuring out what shape are the windows on the school boat, the James Aubrey. Print out the scavenger hunt of your choosing below and bring it with you to the museum.
