Help us celebrate our favorite museum mammal – the North American river otter! Learn otterly terrific facts at learning stations throughout the museum and make an otter craft. Join our otter mascot outside at the Corbin Nature Pavilion to learn his favorite dance, “The Swim”. Don’t forget to visit Calvert and Chessie Grace along the way! Solomons Maritime Festival2019 Solomons Maritime Festival

The event includes the Antique Boat and Marine Show which features exhibits from collectors of antique and classic boats, and vintage marine outboard and inboard engines. Learn how to make traditional stuffed ham, watch demonstrations on how to shuck oysters like the pros, enjoy local music, see Chesapeake Bay retrievers in action, watch model boats skim the waters of the boat basin, and talk with traditional crafts people as they demonstrate their skills. Free 30-minute cruises on the Wm. B. Tennison. For the kids, there will be toy boat building and more. 


Night at the Museum for Friends with Disabilities

5 p.m. to 7 p.m. FREE

The Calvert Marine Museum and grounds will be open exclusively for all guests with disabilities and their families, friends, or caregivers. See why the museum is a fun and welcoming place for guests to visit any day of the week! This event is co-hosted by Calvert County Parks & Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation Services (TRS).

Enjoy the skates and rays, fish, fossils, and maritime history in a relaxed and supportive environment. Learn about river otters and meet Bubbles, our otter mascot. Explore the Discovery Room, boat basin, and Drum Point Lighthouse. Shop in the Museum Store where there is something for all ages and interests. Take a relaxing 30-minute cruise aboard the Wm. B. Tennison at 5 p.m., 5:45 p.m., or 6:30 p.m. A calming room is available.

Pre-registration is required for each person to ride the Wm. B. Tennison. Call TRS at 410-535-1600, ext. 8204 or 8205 to register for the Tennison cruise.

SHARKFEST!Sharkfest

RAIN or SHINE! Celebrate all things shark, all day, at CMM! Sharks are one of the world’s most riveting creatures and SHARKFEST is a chance to learn more about them. Guests will be able to view sharks up close while outside at the Corbin Nature Pavilion. While the Discovery Room will be closed to allow the focus to be on the sharks for the day, our younger visitors will still have the opportunity to search for a fossil outside. The museum and grounds will offer opportunities to explore the diversity of sharks and their remarkable history on planet Earth. Learn fascinating ‘sharktoids,’ examine evidence of prehistoric sharks, and make a shark-themed craft. Food, drink, and face painting will be for sale on-site.

Complimentary museum passes will not be honored and strollers are not allowed in the museum for SHARKFEST. Museum admission applies; members are FREE.  

No strollers or wagons due to limited space at the event.

Patuxent River Appreciation Day (PRAD)PRAD

Patuxent River Appreciation Day (PRAD) is an annual festival which creates awareness, recognition, and promotion of the economic, social, recreational, cultural and historical impact of the tributaries and environs of the Patuxent River and the basin through which it flows.

Join us for lots of music, food, makers of home spun goods, a petting zoo, boat rides, toy boat building, pony rides, displays and activities celebrating the river – all the fun goings-on you have come to expect!

Solomons Christmas WalkDPLHXmasWalk

The Calvert Marine Museum invites you to enjoy the beauty of Solomons Island during the Solomons Christmas Walk, an annual event sponsored by the Solomons Business Association.

Enjoy musical entertainment, Santa, and the Otter mascot. Make holiday crafts and shopping in the Museum Store. Santa's Coffee House will be open with complimentary hot cocoa, coffee, and holiday cookies. Museum members will save 20% in the Museum Store during the walk and all weekend!

Join us for the third annual celebration of fossilized poop, otherwise known as coprolites. Stations featuring fossilized feces and the stories they tell will be dispersed through our galleries. The event will also feature coprolites in the making…modern feces, some with a twist and a new Scats and Tracks activity.
