Friday, July 2
First Free Friday: 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Start the July 4th weekend with a patriotic performance by the 257th Army Band – The Band of the Nation’s Capital starting at 6:30 p.m. on the concert stage. Bring lawn chairs and a picnic supper and join the fun. Museum is open and free to the public. Docents will be in every gallery; enjoy free 30-minute boat rides on the Wm. B. Tennison sponsored by M&T Bank.

Sea Squirts: I Swim Sideways With Claws That Pinch - Who Am I? 10:30 – 11:00 a.m. Blue crabs and fiddler crabs can both be found in the marsh. Use movement, stories, and a marsh walk to learn about these unique creatures. A free drop-in program for tots.

Sharkfest! 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Doug Poole will be in the “SharkPoole” as children touch the sandpaper skin of a real shark. Take pictures in the jaws of a Giant Megalodon shark skeleton. Find a 20-million-year-old shark’s tooth in the Discovery Room. The day will include fish face painting, marine games, shark crafts, displays by the Fossil Club, and shark mural painting. Museum admission applies; $3 per person additional charge to visit the SharkPoole for non-members.

Maritime Concert Series presents Geoff Kaufman. Enjoy the truth, humor, and beauty in folk music as performed by this talented traditional musician at 7:00 p.m. in the museum auditorium. $5 donation per person. Kaufman is a founding member of the quartet, Forebitter, and a well known performer throughout the Northeast United States and Europe. Light supper fare by Lotus Kitchen, and beer and wine will be available for sale starting at 5:30 p.m.

Behind-the-Scenes Family Overnight: Ever wanted to spend the night in the museum? Here’s your chance. Evening activities include a behind-the-scenes tour, a session in the paleontology prep lab, and a scavenger hunt through the museum looking for hidden pictures in the murals. Check in at 7:00 p.m. and leave after breakfast on Saturday morning. All participants will receive a free museum pass. Children must be 8 years and up, accompanied by an adult.
