PEM TALKS AT THE CALVERT MARINE MUSEUM

Feb 4, 2010, 09:10

Enjoy PEM Talks at the Calvert Marine Museum covering a range of stimulating speakers on topics dealing with Paleontology, the Environment, and Maritime History, all year long. Dr. Ralph Eshelman will present Sinking Lands and Rising Seas: Evolutionary Changes in the Chesapeake Bay on Thursday, February 18 at 7:00 p.m. in the museum auditorium. Join us for a pre-historical perspective on rising sea levels. All PEM Talks are free and open to the public.

Dr. Ralph Eshelman held the position of Director at the Calvert Marine Museum, Solomons, Maryland, from 1974 to 1990, and is a specialist in maritime history, War of 1812, polar exploration, vertebrate paleontology, and cultural resource management. Eshelman is widely published in and lectures on both maritime and military history, polar exploration, geology, and paleontology.  His research interests have taken him to many parts of the world, in some cases serving as geologist, naturalist, and historian on expedition cruise ships. His interdisciplinary perspective promises an interesting and wide ranging discussion on the topic of sea level rise in the Chesapeake.

This four-part series focusing on the impacts of climate change is funded by matching grants from The Boeing Company, and the Southern Maryland Heritage Area Consortium and the Maryland Heritage Areas Authority.

Join the Calvert Marine Museum in celebrating 40 years of excellence in 2010. The museum is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission is $7.00 for adults, $6.00 for seniors and military with valid I.D., and $2.00 for children ages 5 – 12; children under 5 are free.
