TUBACHRISTMAS CELEBRATION AT THE CALVERT MARINE MUSEUM

Dec 1, 2006, 08:31

Come join the merry TUBACHRISTMAS celebration this season in Solomons, Maryland.  The Calvert Marine Museum will be hosting Solomons’ 5th Annual TUBACHRISTMAS event on Sunday, December 17th, at 3:30 PM in the museum auditorium.

Local musicians from Southern Maryland look forward to this unique event every Christmas season and invite the public to come out and sing along.

Created by renowned American tuba artist & teacher, Harvey Phillips, TUBACHRISTMAS is an annual event presented at locations throughout the United States and in several foreign countries.  Phillips was inspired to create

TUBACHRISTMAS to honor his teacher and mentor, William Bell, born on Christmas Day, 1902.  The first TUBACHRISTMAS event was held in 1974 at the Rockefeller Plaza Ice Rink in New York City.

TUBACHRISTMAS performances feature traditional Christmas carols arranged for tuba and euphonium players. (The euphonium looks like a tuba, but it is smaller- often called a baritone horn.)  The warm and rich, organ-like sound of the tuba-euphonium choirs has won the ears and hearts of every audience. It is no wonder that TUBACHRISTMAS has become an established Christmas tradition in cities throughout the world.
