WINTER LIGHTS FESTIVAL OFFERS FAMILY FUN
Dec 19, 2006, 08:32
On Sunday, January 14, as part of their annual Winter Lights Festival, the Calvert Marine Museum will feature family activities throughout the day. Gingerbread Lighthouse workshops for children ages five and up will be held at 11:00, 12:30, and 2:00. There is a materials fee of $5 per child and registration is required. Space is limited, so sign up today. Call 410-326-2042 ext. 41 to register.
Children up to age 12 are encouraged to put their architectural skills to the test, and enter the museum’s Winter Lights Festival Lego Lighthouse Contest. Build a lighthouse at home and bring it to the museum any time between January 8 and January 14 for display. Entrants should include a card with their name, phone number and address.
Judging will be held at 2:00 on Sunday, January 14. Winners will get a special behind-the-scenes tour of the Calvert Marine Museum for their immediate family. Children can also build a Lego Lighthouse in the Discovery Room Loft for fun throughout this festival weekend.
At 3:00 on Sunday, Bob Zentz will offer his special blend of storytelling and maritime song. Bob sings about people, places and times gone by, and accompanies himself on dozens of folk instruments. He is an accomplished teller of 'the tales behind the songs', and an acknowledged scholar of the evolution of 'home-made music'. Always a favorite with families, this concert will be held in the Museum Auditorium and is free.
