TUBACHRISTMAS RETURNS TO THE CALVERT MARINE MUSEUM

Nov 8, 2007, 20:25

The Calvert Marine Museum will be hosting Solomons’ 6th Annual TUBACHRISTMAS concert on Sunday, December 23, 2007, at 3:30 p.m. in the museum’s auditorium.  Local musicians from Southern Maryland look forward to this event every year and invite the public to come join them for this unique holiday celebration.  The TUBACHRISTMAS performance is open to the public and free of charge.  All low brass players in the local area are welcome to play in the group (details @ www.tubachristmas.com).  TUBACHRISTMAS performances feature traditional Christmas carols arranged for tuba and euphonium players.  The euphonium, often called a baritone horn, looks like a tuba but is slightly smaller.

Created by renowned American tuba artist & teacher, Harvey Phillips, TUBACHRISTMAS concerts will be presented in over 200 cities throughout the United States and in several foreign countries this season.  Phillips was inspired to create TUBACHRISTMAS to honor his teacher and mentor, William Bell, born on Christmas Day, 1902.  Now an established Christmas tradition around the world, TUBACHRISTMAS is celebrating its 34th Anniversary (1974-2007).  The first TUBACHRISTMAS event was held in 1974 with a gathering of over 300 tuba and euphonium players on stage at New York City’s Rockefeller Center.  Anyone who has ever heard a TUBACHRISTMAS concert will never forget the experience!
