FOSSIL FIELD EXPERIENCE AT THE CALVERT MARINE MUSEUM

May 20, 2008, 10:38

Living in Calvert County means touching the ancient past every time you find a shark’s tooth on the beach. At the Calvert Marine Museum, you can discover a great deal about that prehistoric past and what the world was like here 8 – 20 million years ago.

On Saturday, June 14, join our Fossil Field Experience where you will travel to a local beach with a member of our staff to learn about fossils, how to look for them, and how to identify them. Part of the program takes place in the museum’s newly renovated paleontology hall where you can see the entire 4.6 billion years of the earth’s existence laid out in a swirling timeline inlaid with actual fossils from around the world. Get a tour of the fossil prep lab, and learn how paleontologists prepare the ancient fossils they find in the Calvert Cliffs. The program takes place from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Space is limited and requires pre-registration. The program is open to ages 8 and up; the fee is $20 per person. Call 410-326-2042 ext. 41 to register.
