Children ages 3-5 are invited to participate in Little Minnows: Where’s the End of the Rainbow? Nobody knows where the rainbow ends, but everyone can see its many colors. Children will make their own rainbows using prisms, bubbles, water, and even a lighthouse lens. The program is from 10 to 11 a.m. The fee is $4 for members, $5 for non-members. Friday, June 5
First Free Friday on June 5 features entertainment under the Drum Point Lighthouse by Chris Harward with the 6 Weeks to Go Band performing a mix of popular Rock and Blues songs from the 1970's, 80's, and 90's. The Drum Point Lighthouse will be open from 5:00 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. There will be free half-hour cruises on the Wm. B. Tennison sponsored by M&T Bank at 5:30 p.m., 6:15 p.m., and 7:00 p.m. Docents are in all the galleries; enjoy complimentary coffee from Lusby Commons Starbucks. Gather your friends and family and come on down.
Saturday, June 6
Join the Lighthouse Adventure Cruise to see five southern lighthouses in the Chesapeake Bay, along with a museum interpreter. The charter boat leaves the dock at 7:45 a.m. and returns at approximately 4:00 p.m. There is a scheduled stopover on Smith Island for lunch on your own. The cost is $150; early bird registration by May 15 is $130; museum members pay $125. Pre-registration is required and space is limited: call 410-326-2042 ext. 41.
Sunday, June 7
On Sunday, June 7, Ali Kahn, author and folklorist, will offer a multi-disciplinary presentation about her recent book Patapsco: Life Along Maryland’s Historic River Valley. Using photographs by Peggy Fox, actors reading excerpts from oral histories, and live music, she will tell the fascinating story of how this book came to be, and what it came to mean to her and the people she chronicled. Portraying people in a place, this book touches on a larger issue: disappearing American places. The presentation is free at 2:00 p.m. in the auditorium, followed by a book signing.
Saturday, June 13
Become a fossil hunter with the museum’s Fossil Field Experience on Saturday, June 13 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Learn about the prehistoric past of this region, explore a local beach for fossils with a museum interpreter, and learn how to find and identify fossils. Space is limited and pre-registration required. Children must be eight years or older to participate. Cost is $20 per person. Call 410-326-2042 ext. 41.
Saturday, June 13
Summer Kick-Off Cruise on the Wm. B. Tennison will take place on Saturday, June 13. The boat leaves the museum dock at 11:30 a.m. and returns at 1:00 p.m. Come celebrate summer with your family by eating pizza and getting your face painted, while out enjoying a day on the water. On Wednesday, June 17 children ages 3-5 are invited to participate in Little Minnows: Nature’s Music. Come and listen to nature’s song - the wind playing in the trees, birds singing, and the bees buzzing are all the instruments in this symphony. We’ll make our own music to play along. Sunday, June 21
We offer two special Father’s Day cruises on the Wm. B. Tennison on Sunday, June 21. The brunch cruise is from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The Father’s Day evening cruise runs from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with heavy hors d’ oeuvres served.
