HAVE A BLAST IN JULY AT THE CALVERT MARINE MUSEUM

Jun 19, 2009, 10:28

Start the month of July with a bang at the Calvert Marine Museum. The museum is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Visit the website at www.calvertmarinemuseum.com for a complete listing of events, programs, and activities.

Thursday, July 2
Little Minnows: Beaks and Feet.  Birds get their food in many ways - some slurp worms and others grip branches in the trees or hunt fish in the water. Birds’ beaks and feet can tell us what they eat. The program is from 10:00 a.m. to 11 a.m. The fee is $4 for members, $5 for non-members. Space is limited and pre-registration suggested. Call 410-326-2042 ext. 41.

Friday, July 3
First Free Friday: The Museum is open and free to the public, 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Docents will be in every gallery talking about the exhibits. Entertainment, free coffee courtesy of the Lusby Starbucks, and free 30 minute cruises on the Wm. B. Tennison..

Saturday, July 11
Sharkfest!
The Sharkpoole Experience brings live sharks to the museum and allows children to touch the sandpaper skin of a real shark. Have your picture taken in the jaws of a Giant Megalodon shark skeleton. Learn the amazing facts about shark habits and habitats. Find a 20-million-year-old shark’s tooth in the Discovery Room. The day will include face painting, marine games, shark crafts, displays by the Fossil Club, and shark mural painting. Museum admission required; additional $3 fee for the Sharkpoole Experience.

Wednesday, July 15
Little Minnows: Ocean Motion. Come catch a wave. Observe the up and down movement of water.  We’ll make our own waves with a rope, a tub of water, and a sheet. The program is from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The fee is $4 for members, $5 for non-members. Space is limited and pre-registration suggested. Call 410-326-2042 ext. 41.

Friday, July 17
Sunset in the Tropics Cruise: 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Experience “Sunset in the Tropics” as you listen to Key West music and enjoy tropical cuisine. Parrot Heads are welcome. Pre-registration required. Cost is $35 per person. Call 410-326-2042 ext. 41.
