MARITIME CONCERT SERIES PRESENTS DRAMTREEO
Traditional music of North America, the British Isles and the seven seas

Enjoy an evening of acoustic music
The summer Maritime Performance Series at the Calvert Marine Museum continues on Friday, July 22 with a performance by Dramtreeo at 7:00 in the museum auditorium. This popular folk group from Norfolk, Virginia is well known up and down the Atlantic seaboard for their tight vocal harmonies, virtuosic musicianship, and rich repertoire. Dramtreeo has been entertaining audiences for years with a unique mix of Kingston Trio, Irish, colonial, folk and bluegrass numbers.

Beginning as a trio in 1981, the original group members took their name from the story of the "Dram Tree," a legend about an old cypress tree in the harbor of Edenton, North Carolina. According to this tale, sailors would gather at the tree prior to their voyages to have one last dram of rum for good luck. Ships returning to the harbor would refill the casks, keeping the tradition alive.

The trio mutated into a quartet by the time of the first album in 1984, a rousing introduction to their tight vocal harmonies and acoustic musical craftsmanship. Their second album "Waterside" was released in 1987, continuing the mix of sea shanties, Irish ballads and Kingston Trio-like folk songs and was selected as a "Top-Ten Music Americana" album in 1987.  A third album "Dramtreeo 3" followed in 1992, and two additional albums have been released in recent years.

Dramtreeo now boasts a quintet using the banjo, bass, fiddle, guitar, and harmonica. Throughout their career, the group's thick multi-part vocal harmonies and fine musicianship have helped create a user-friendly, family-oriented style rarely found since the folk boom of the early '60s.

Tickets are $5 and sold only at the door, check or cash. No advance ticket sales. Lite bites prepared by Lotus Kitchen, along with beer, wine, lemonade, and water will be for sale starting at 6:00 p.m. in the lobby. Enjoy an intimate evening of acoustic music at the Calvert Marine Museum.
