Friday, July 6 - First Free Friday
The museum is open and free to the public from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. 257th Army Band returns for the third year playing on the outdoor stage at 7:00 p.m. Bring lawn chairs and a picnic supper. Docents will be in every gallery talking about the exhibits. Visit Drum Point Lighthouse and enjoy 30-minute boat rides on the Wm. B. Tennison sponsored by M&T Bank. FREE.
Tuesday, July 10, 12, & 19 - Sea Squirts
Grunt, Squeak, and Growl! FREE drop-in program from 10:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. for toddlers 18 months to 3 years old and their caregivers.
Thursday, July 12 - The SuperMagicMan's Big Illusion
Starring Reggie Rice, D.C.’s two-time Comedy Magician of the Year, this family show is a high energy, magic production that is filled with fantastic illusions, dancing, and comedy. 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium. Admission is $4 per person at the door.
Saturday, July 14 - SHARKFEST!
Come see live sharks and sturgeon in the Shark and Sturgeon Pavilion from 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Take your picture in the jaws of a Giant Megalodon shark skeleton. Find a 20-million-year-old shark's tooth in the Discovery Room. The day will include fish face painting, shark crafts, displays by the Fossil Club, and shark mural painting. Museum admission applies; free for members. Buy a family membership at $5.00 off and avoid the lines! Strollers are not allowed inside the museum and complimentary museum passes will not be honored.
Friday, July 20 - Maritime Performance Series
The Maritime Performance Series presents Pint and Dale at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium. Seattle duo William Pint and Felicia Dale have boundless enthusiasm for creating and sharing music. With guitar, hurdy-gurdy, mandolin, violin, whistles, harmony, joy and pure energy, Pint and Dale offer humor and drama in equal measure. Admission is $5 at the door. Lotus Kitchen will offer Lite Bites for sale starting at 6:00 p.m.; wine, beer, and water also available for sale.
Saturday, July 21 - Fossil Field Experience
Do you know why Calvert County is known for its shark's teeth? Did you know that they can be 20 million years old? Join a museum educator and discover the clues found buried in the sand, telling tales of life long before humans walked the earth from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Space is limited. Saturday, July 21 - Waterman for a Day at the Lore Oyster House
Experience life and work in an oyster packing house, use oyster tongs, work in the shucking room and sing work songs from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. Learn about oyster biology and how to help restore Crassostrea virginica from the Southern Maryland Oyster Cultivation Society. FREE
Special one-hour Patuxent excursions aboard a Chesapeake workboat, the Roughwater. Limited to six passengers each outing, $20 per person, pre-registration required. Leaving from the Lore Oyster House at 12:30 p.m., 2:00 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. Call 410-326-2042 ext. 41 to register by July 19 to ensure a spot.
Saturday, July 21 - Sunset in the Tropics Cruise
Experience "Sunset in the Tropics" in Key West style with music and tropical cuisine aboard the historic Wm. B. Tennison from 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Parrot Heads encouraged. Preregistration required. Call 410-326- 2042 ext. 41.
