Estuarine Biology Department Receives $50,000 Donation
Lions are coming to Calvert Marine Museum!

Christmas came early for the staff of the Calvert Marine Museum when it was announced on December 18, 2013 that the Estuarine Biology Department had been given a $50,000 donation. The donor, a longtime museum supporter, was inspired to give after attending a presentation given by Curator of Estuarine Biology, David Moyer on upcoming renovations to the Estuarium.

This generous donation will allow the museum to include a lionfish aquarium in the Estuarium renovation. The lionfish aquarium will serve to anchor the Eco-Invaders section of the Estuarium, offering guests a 360 degree view of the amazing lionfish currently invading the Atlantic Basin. It will also enhance the immersion experience of the entire exhibit by providing new gallery lighting and modern text and graphic panels, and improve the interactive nature through a display of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's website demonstrating the expanding range of lionfish in the Atlantic.

The Estuarine Biology Department and the Calvert Marine Museum as a whole are so thankful to our members and generous donors who make updating our exhibits possible. Stay up-to-date on the renovations by visiting our Website at and our Facebook at

The museum is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission is $9.00 for adults, $7.00 for seniors and military with valid I.D., and $4.00 for children ages 5 - 12; children under 5 and museum members are always admitted free. Effective January 1, 2014, the museum is closed for renovation. Stay posted for the reopening date in March 2014. For more information about the museum, upcoming events, membership, and for updates on the renovation, visit the website at or call 410-326-2042. Like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter.
