ENJOY FIRST FREE FRIDAY AT THE CALVERT MARINE MUSEUM

Dec 6, 2007, 18:03

Looking for something to do with the kids after the holidays?  Are your holiday guests looking for interesting things to do while visiting the area?  If so, the Calvert Marine Museum would like to remind you of its monthly First Free Friday program which occurs on the first Friday of each month.  During First Free Friday for January, the museum is open free to the public from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on January 4, and all exhibits are open for your enjoyment.  At 7:30 p.m., enjoy the documentary film Around Cape Horn, Captain Irving Johnson’s memorable documentary of his voyage as a young man aboard the bark Peking in 1929, including a remarkable sequence about the ship rounding the Horn in a storm. At 8:00 p.m., maritime musician Bob Zentz returns to the museum for his third consecutive year, and will perform “Season of the Sailor” in the auditorium. This concert of songs, poems, and stories about the winter season, holidays, and lives of those whose occupations take them away upon the waters during this special time is appropriate for adults of all ages and children age 10 and up. Admission is by donation. A cash bar will be available beginning at 8:00 p.m.

“We are very pleased to be able to offer the First Free Friday program at the Calvert Marine Museum,” says Sherrod Sturrock, Deputy Director.  “After the holidays, people are often looking for inexpensive things to do with their families, and what better way to enjoy a winter’s evening than learning about our local history at the museum.  January is an exceptionally special First Free Friday as we offer live entertainment with our film presentation followed by a concert by one of our favorite performers, Bob Zentz,” Sturrock adds.
