CALVERT MARINE MUSEUM PRESENTS WINTER AT THE COVE POINT LIGHTHOUSE

Dec 17, 2007, 08:54

Enjoy the magical beauty of a lighthouse in winter on Saturday, January 5 and Sunday, January 6, as the Calvert Marine Museum presents Winter at the Cove Point Lighthouse.  The lighthouse will be open to the public for free on both days from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.  The Keeper’s Residence will be open for touring, and a docent will be on hand to share information about the lighthouse and its rich history within our community.

The Cove Point Lighthouse is Maryland’s oldest continuously operating lighthouse, and is open to visitors annually from May through October with the exception of this special winter weekend event.  During your visit to Winter at the Cove Point Lighthouse, enjoy a close look at the light tower, visit our newly renovated Fog Bell Mini-Theatre, view the Cove Point memorial brick exhibit, sign up for one of the floral design or cooking classes being offered, and enjoy a “nautical winter” themed floral arts show and sale sponsored by Dickson’s Fields of Flowers.

On Saturday evening, the popular event Cove Point by Candlelight returns for its third consecutive year at the Cove Point Lighthouse from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.  Decorated with candles and twinkle lights, this unique event provides the only public opportunity to visit the Cove Point Lighthouse at night, and one of the few opportunities to gather socially in the interior of the Keeper’s House.  Cove Point by Candlelight will offer heavy hors d’oeuvers, a cash bar, live entertainment by maritime musician Bob Zentz, lighthouse lore presentations, and an expanded winter wonderland floral art and design show by Dickson’s Fields of Flowers.  Tickets are $55 each and space is limited.  For tickets to Cove Point by Candlelight, contact Melissa Carnes, 410-326-2042 ext. 17. Space is limited and proceeds from this event will support renovations to the Cove Point Lighthouse and Keeper’s House.
