FIRST FREE FRIDAY a Huge Hit at The Calvert Marine Museum!
Apr 16, 2008, 08:51
The Calvert Marine Museum is pleased to announce plans to continue First Free Fridays as part of its ongoing public programming. Following a very successful pilot program that ran from October 2007 through April 2008, the museum administration has agreed to continue the popular event. The first Friday of every month, the museum will be open from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. free to the public. Each month there is a different theme which frequently involves live performances or special activities. It’s a great way for families to get acquainted or reacquainted with the museum.
On Friday, May 2, the museum celebrates maritime skills as a precursor to the annual Maritime Festival on May 10. Staff from Sail Solomons will be on hand to give an “Intro to Sailing” presentation, and weather permitting, will have one of their 22’ sailboats in the basin. Visitors can also learn to tie knots, lasso a piling, and view the Drum Point Lighthouse. The entire museum is open for visitors, including the new entrance to the paleontology hall and the popular discovery room.
The pilot program was sponsored by M&T Bank, the Holiday Inn Select, and Starbucks Coffee. The museum is currently seeking additional sponsors to support the upcoming season. For information, call 410-326-2042 ext. 41.
