Little Minnows: 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
NOW YOU SEE ME, NOW YOU DON’T! Discover how some animals that play hide-and-seek can almost disappear. You will learn that many animals use camouflage by blending in for protection. Through song, craft, and game, see how animals survive. Fee: $4 for members, $5 for non-members. Space is limited. Pre-registration suggested. Call 410-326-2042 ext. 41.

First Free Friday: 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Enjoy Gretchen Richie’s Jazz Cabaret in concert starting at 5:30 p.m. in the museum’s auditorium. Free concert series is funded by the Maryland State Arts Council and The Boeing Company.

Celtic Workshops & Concert by Le Vent De Nord sponsored by the Celtic Society of Southern Maryland. PEEK-A-BOO WHERE ARE YOU? Can you hide in plain sight like the animals? Learn about the subtle art of camouflage and experiment with hiding jelly beans. See our animals hiding using their tricks. Free drop-in program for tots ages 18 months – 3 years with an adult.

PEM Talk: Stop Global Warming: DON'T Go Green!
Maryland environmental activist Mike Tidwell believes the "Go Green" mania in America is actually hurting efforts to fight global warming. What we really need -- a la the Civil Rights movement -- are "green" laws that finally and rapidly phase out the violent use of fossil fuels in America. Free in the museum auditorium, 3:00 p.m. Sponsored by The Boeing Company, and the Southern Maryland Heritage Area Consortium and the Maryland Heritage Areas Authority.

The Osprey Are Coming! On St. Patrick’s Day start looking for the Ospreys to arrive. Search near water for Osprey nests, look to the skies to welcome them home, visit the Osprey nest in the museum, and learn about migration through stories, craft, and movement. Osprey: Migration Fishing Birds of the World. Follow the story Ospreys by Doug Wechsler about these fishing birds and how they travel thousands of miles to arrive in the Chesapeake Bay after St. Patrick’s Day. March 29 – April 5: Spend your Spring Break at the Calvert Marine Museum! Programs free with museum admission unless otherwise noted. Join us every afternoon from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. on the hour for these exciting 15-minute programs.
March 29: Turtle Talks
Get a close-up look at our local turtles from box turtles to snappers to our resident Diamondback Terrapins. Join an interpreter in the Discovery Room about life as a turtle, and touch a terrapin at our touch tank. 15-minute program runs from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. on the hour.
March 30: Crab Conferences
Join an interpreter by our Blue Crab exhibit as we take a close up look at some of the species of crab that live in the bay, and learn how the crabs are doing at surviving. 15-minute program runs from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. on the hour.
March 31: Otters
Join an interpreter with the otter cart out in the Estuarium Hall to learn more about these playful creatures. Meet the Otter Keeper at 1:15 p.m. and see what the otters get for a snack. 15-minute program runs from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. on the hour.
April 1: The Magic and Mystery of Jellyfish
Jellyfish may be annoying to some, but they are an important part of the food chain. Join an interpreter at the Jellyfish exhibit to learn more about this critical part of the aquatic food chain. 15-minute program runs from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. on the hour.
April 2: The Fights of the Oyster
Since the 1600s this simple little shellfish has been the cause of multiple laws, pirating, and even death! Join an interpreter in the Maritime History Hall to learn more about the fights over the oyster in the past, and the current fight of the oyster for survival! 15-minute program runs from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. on the hour.
April 3: Fossil Egg Hunt – 10:00 a.m.
Discover hidden fossil eggs throughout the museum for children age 3 – 7. Please bring your own basket for collecting eggs. Participants are awarded a prize, and may keep the fossils! Admission required.
April 5: Otter Breakfast – 9:00 a.m.
Learn about otter enrichment, habitat, and the mischief these mammals get into with their playful curiosity. Go behind the scenes to talk with a keeper and observe a feeding. A continental breakfast will be provided. Children must be 8 years old and accompanied by an adult to participate. Space is limited, pre-registration required. Fee is $15 per person, $10 for members, and includes museum admission. Call 410-326-2042 ext. 41 to register.
